About
Javier Cervantes
Javier Cervantes (Javi) serves as the Executive Director of The Diatribe Inc., where he provides strategic leadership for the organization’s mission, programs, and long-term sustainability. In this role, he oversees organizational operations, fundraising, partnerships, and vision-setting, with a particular focus on advancing equity, amplifying youth voice through the arts, and strengthening institutional capacity.
With over 15 years of experience in West Michigan, Javier brings a multidisciplinary background spanning afterschool programming, community engagement, communications, marketing, public and media relations, and organizational leadership. Prior to stepping into the Executive Director role, he served as The Diatribe’s Chief Operating Officer and Interim Executive Director, where he led internal operations, human resources, and systems development—helping position the organization for growth and long-term impact.
Javier’s leadership is grounded in relationship-building, cultural responsiveness, and a deep commitment to creating spaces where historically marginalized voices are not only welcomed but centered. He is especially passionate about the role of arts and storytelling as tools for personal and collective transformation.
Outside of his professional work, Javier is a creative writer and public speaker who aspires to become a spoken word artist. He is driven by a desire to inspire others to use their voices boldly—particularly in spaces not originally designed for BIPOC and Queer individuals—and to reimagine who belongs in leadership, arts, and community decision-making.
