Samika Douglas
Samika Douglas brings over 20 years of professional advocacy and civic engagement experience from the public and private sectors, driven by her personal mission: «My mission is to use my skills, knowledge, and passion to create positive change in the world. I am committed to promoting equality, fostering empathy, and empowering others to reach their full potential. Through my actions and words, I strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate community where everyone feels valued and supported.» This mission aligns with her guiding principle, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” (Roman’s 12:13 NIV).
Currently, Samika is the Director of Advocacy for Project GREEN, where she serves as the «Community Voice» on several councils, committees, and boards, including those for HHCWM (Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan), KCFPC (Kent County Food Policy Council), and KCHD (Kent County Health Department). She also joined Healthy Homes of West Michigan in January 2024 as the Community Organizer, returning after having previously worked as a Parent/Community Advocate for Parents for Healthy Homes from 2018-2021, where she led community resource planning to support families of children with lead poisoning. Additionally, she joined Save a Life A Day Outreach, a nonprofit for youth advocacy, as Co-Director in 2023, following over five years as Linc Ups Senior Community Liaison.
Samika’s extensive experience includes providing direct support to community members in crisis. She began her career as a Safe Shelter Crisis Worker in her hometown of Benton Harbor, Michigan. In the private sector, as the Customer Care Executive for DTE Energy, she resolved elevated member crisis calls. Her commitment to youth development is evident from her roles as Youth Coordinator for the Lamb of God Church in Grand Rapids and Director of the North Park Pirates Youth Football League. She also has experience as a Librarian at Muskegon Community College.
Samika holds an Associate degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Muskegon Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University. She actively serves as the voice for the community on several councils, committees, and boards. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
